We want to a VPN to our network, but not allowed access to the cradle point router.  Who can we reach to get resolved?

Thank You

Port Forwarding and DNS

I'm encountering a couple of strange issues that I was hoping to get some guidance on resolving.

The first is with port forwarding. I have a web server and have opened up port 80 and am forwarding that to the appropriate internal IP address. When I try and access the website from an exterior network, such as on my cell phone using my data plan, or a starbucks wifi access point, the website is accessible and visible. From my internal network, the website is inaccessible. I can edit the "hosts" file on my local computer to point the web address to my internal IP and it works just fine, but if I leave the "hosts" file alone it's inaccessible. I would prefer to not have to maintain hosts files on every computer on my network (and there are other devices like my phone that I don't have the ability to set up such a workaround). Is there a setting in the router that I'm perhaps missing?

The second issue is that we have our own DNS servers. When I try and put in the IP addresses of the DNS servers and save the configuration, the router appears to revert to selecting the Comcast DNS servers instead and does not save the IP addresses of my servers.

For reference, we have the following modem/router from Comcast:

Model:CGA4131COM
Vendor:Technicolor
Hardware Revision:2.3

Need to block incoming ports 443 and 60443

So the is the opposite of what people usually as in these types of forums LOL.

To comply with someone for something we need to block the incoming ports 443 and 60443, just the incoming, if we block the outgoing nobody can access https

I can get into the router (Comcast supplied business router, says "Technicolor" on it) but want to make sure I do it correctly.

Advice?

Thanks!

Hi this issue is about a business account
This area we got another hurricane and shut off our power. Due to the extent of the power of the hurricane comcast was down for a few days
Past weekend entergy our light company was working on a pole and shut off the power
In conclusion few ethernet outlet of the Comcast business modem/router isn't working

Technicolor DPC3194B STILL unable to accomodate port forwarding

A year ago (10/11/2019), I posted this same problem with the Technicolor DPC3194B modem and problems with port forwarding (IE: an absolute incapacity to accomplish this).. I THOUGHT the issue was resolved after the Comcast phone tech did a remote 'factory restore', but I guess I shouldn't have been so quick to accept that it was, in fact, "fixed'.

Within mere days, the ports I had forwarded were inoperative again - no port forwarding was achieved nor could I even access the previous configuration.  And just as was explained in the OP initially, there was no evidence of any attached devices via Ethernet connection or wifi.

Apparently the firmware allows the two possible means to achieve this, which are via an attempt to configure an 'application hosting' rule, or simply a 'port forward' rule, but neither will actually function for longer than a few hours.  It is as if somehow the firmware is somehow being 'reset' or the ports 'blocked' despite these port forwarding rules that STILL appear as properly configured (but cannot be accessed or altered).

Recently, because of the COVID-19 pandemic, we NEEDED to re-establish remote administration to this LAN via our remote access and management software (NetOp), but once again this is seemingly impossible to achieve. Frankly, I'm beginning to believe this modem is in some way defective since all efforts to port forward or configure a 'host application' rule AND to have it remain in place and operational for longer than a day simply cannot be accomplished, and I've been doing this type of thing for a VERY long time now.

BTW: this past week when I called Comcast Business Support about this (...again), I was told (literally) that "...Comcast does not use Technicolor DPC3194B modems in this market..."

Hmmm... Really..?  Then how did we get this one, I just have to wonder ...?

This is REALLY a problem for us insofar as concerns about COVID exposure would make remote access of significant interest for those who need to 'tele-commute' to avoid potential exposure, and certainly for someone like me that is charged with management and access to perform service on the network attached computers on this very small LAN.

In My Business Wi-Fi it shows both 2.5 ghz and 5 ghz. However, I am not given an option to choose either 2.5 ghz or 5 ghz when attempting to connect a device. It just shows one network available.

Subject says it all. Working a 100% remote job and this can't happen. Was told that my gateway was compatible with the new speed 300/30 but am wondering know if there's a memory exhaustion issue.

Logs don't show anything besides gateway acquiring IP address.

Flaky modem, absolutely terrible support

For over a year my Comcast-provided Cisco modem has been randomly freezing; a power cycle will bring it back, but it's an interruption that I cannot afford. The modem has been replaced once. Technicians have visited and determined that there is nothing wrong with signal strength or wiring. My internal network is fine (and I've replaced my router, with no effect on the issue).

Calling the support line goes through an automated reset, so technicians are unable to look at the modem in its faulted state. So much for diagnosing the problem.

Support call quality has gone downhill, and I can no longer reach anyone remotely technical to discuss this issue. Instead, the reps have attempted to upsell my connection speed, and have made nonsense configuration changes to the modem (why would mucking with DNS settings have /anything/ to do with my ability to ping 8.8.8.8?) This morning I have been suffering multiple modem resets, and have spent over two hours on the phone with nothing to show for it. I am on hold now for 40 minutes.

What the heck am I paying for? It's not this.

All I want to do this morning is to swap out the Cisco gear for a cable modem that's on the business class compatibility list. It's sitting right there, waiting for me to tell Comcast the new serial number and MAC address. But you're not answering the phone with anyone who can help me.

I am an engineer on call with a very popular gaming service that has tens of millions of online users. If the service goes down and I don't have connectivity, I get to drive into work. The high level of technical support I was getting a few years ago is the reason I subscribed to business class, and right now it is not looking like a very good deal.

Hello, I take care of IT here and I forgot our Comcast Business Gateway password for cusadmin user and need to do some port forwarding. I'd rather not factory-reset and lose our settings. Can you reset the password to default "highspeed" ? I can PM our details.. Thank you!

Please advise how to reset the cusadmin password

Obviously a familiar theme, but someone elected to change the default password and not document or share with anyone.  How may I go about resetting it?

Need to move the modem to new location & I have a TV & modem cable ??

I have 2 coaxes coming into my building. One was for TV & one is for the internet.

Can I move the modem to the TV coax? That line is close where I want to move the router. Or is the internet only on a single coax?

Renovations are requiring the move.

Doubt the forum is monitored on the weekend, but we had a new modem installed when we upgraded speeds and I'm 6 or 7 incorrect guesses into trying to login (neither highspeed or CantTouchThis is working).

When someone sees this, please reply so I have someone to PM our customer information.

CBR-T Manual

I recently upgraded my service and I have this new CBR-T wireless router.  When first installed I did not have time to reset all my rules from my old router so I called support to get a manual on the modem.  They asked what I needed and they switched the modem to passthrough mode.

I now want to use the new modem as my router/wireless device and I cannot locate a manual for this device.  I would like to be able to put it in passthrough mode, take it out of that mode, etc.  I would like to manage the device.

All the help pages I've found reference the modem that was replaced.  Can anyone help me locate a manual for this device?

Parental Controls sorely needed

I recently had to switch to Comcast Business for my home office due to the pandemic. I would like to see Parental Controls on the Comcast Business service like those on the xFi residential service. Currently, when I log into my router's gateway, it allows me to set allowed/blocked times (for example, from 12am-5am my Roku device cannot access the internet), but it does not allow me to manage screentime (for example, limit use of certain devices, websites, or services to no more than 1hour/day). Is there a solution that works with Comcast Business that you recommend? Or is there an update coming to the Comcast business router gateway to be able to set this up? I saw the Circle Home Plus device but that costs $250 for a subscription to allow it to do the things my router should be able to do on its own! Please and thank you!!

Connection Pro and Real Enterprise Firewall (sonicwall, sophos, cisco etc) Failover Failure

$

Hello Everyone,
I have been searching for a month, and I have been unable to find a post or a support person at Comcast that can address what should be a straightforward setup for any dedicated business failover. I have accomplished this with multiple providers (i.e., Comcast and T1), but I can't seem to get it working for Comcast connection Pro and the Cradlepoint. This is what I have before setting up the Comcast 4G backup.
1. We have a Comcast gateway with a static IP.
2.The Comcast gateway gives my firewall WAN1 a static IP.
3.The firewall does all the routing, DHCP, and endpoint protection for my client.
In any IT world I have ever experienced in my 20 years, the backup connection (4G or any other) would plug into the firewall as WAN2. The firewall controls the actual failover.
I am told: The Cradlepoint can only do DHCP, which in my installation is just fine since all they need is outgoing internet and no VPN's or direct connections.
If I plug the Cradlepoint into a WAN2 and set it up for failover, it does NOT provide a DHCP IP to the firewall. I have even tested this by pulling the gateway power and seeing my firewall failover seamlessly. But the cradlepoint does not kick in. Everyone in Comcast tells me that the gateway must be connected to the cradlepoint, and the cradlepoint MUST be the DHCP for the local network. That means no more firewall and all real protections must be removed for Connection Pro to work.
I beg of someone here to tell me I am wrong, and I have not found the right person with the necessary network failover experience to say to me I am wrong, and this can do a proper failover.
I have never heard of any enterprise or small business firewall that can use one WAN input and automatically switch it to DHCP. It's always a 2nd input into the firewall that is configured to the 2nd backup WAN connection. Comcast I could sell 100 of these Connection Pro systems in the next year if that can be accomplished. The Cradlepoint hardware will do this independently, but it seems Comcast had locked them down to only be used INLINE.
FYI. If my firewall had a sim chip input, I would plug the sim from the cradlepoint into the firewall, but my firewall does not have that.
Any help would be much-appreciated PM or publically. I have seen many people all over the internet who can't seem to get this done or get a clear answer. The Comcast clients need to have the information. Support telling us that the IT people must figure it out from there is just not acceptable. Our installer instructions came as 3 handwritten lines on the back of an envelope.
I am an IT professional with 20 years of experience and know my networking. Why does no one at Comcast understand it, or is there any clear technical information. I was on with Level 2 for an hour today, and it's like talking with his cousin's friend's brother, the IT guy from the old neighborhood.
Please help me understand this and provide a solution for me and everyone. Otherwise, it's a paperweight that's going back.
Respectfully,
The IT Guy 🙂

Issues with WiFi connections w/ Apple devices (iPhones, iPads, macs, etc.) on Comcast

I have 10 Apple products that will connect to Comcast WiFi but will NOT stay connected. It does not matter if I reset the modem or use 2.4 or 5.0. I have setup a hidden network and turned off all security (no WPA/password) and it seems to be ok for a few hours, but I know this is not safe.

Here are a few things I have noticed:
1) if it’s from Apple, I have problems
2) when something doesn’t load, I turn off WiFi and the page/app/iCloud loads w/o issues
3) (MAJOR OBSERVATION) when I am on another Xfinity/Comcast network outside the office, it does the SAME exact thing!
4) visitors/customers all have the same problem on my network.
5) reboot/reset modem has no effect
6) clearing cache, browser history, powering off the phone has no effect in connectivity.
7) it’s now a major issue since getting the latest Motorola Business Class modem.
Comcast likes to close these forum posts when Apple is involved so no solution can be found. COMCAST — PLEASE DO NOT LOCK/CLOSE THIS POST until a real solution has been found!!!

Connection Pro setup.

Our setup is: Comcast Modem plugged into switch. Server 2012 does DHCP and DNS. The connection Pro is plugged into the Comcast modem. Will this work as setup or do we need  manually switch the Lan wire or buy a pricy fall-over router to make this work? Got an address, but no default gateway when I tried plugging directly into the Connection Pro. Could not ping anything. Backup is showing on standby in the status page. Thanks.

Bridge Mode and Static IP

$

Before Comcast reads this and goes to reply PLEASE I already know with your system with a modem in bridge mode static IP is not possible on a device behind the modem. I'm making this post to talk with other Comcast business customers to see if they have a solution to this horrendous system I'm stuck using. Also yes pass through mode is the only option but pass through mode is still behind NAT.

Customers: Is there ANYONE on here that has gotten their business cisco modem AIO in bridge mode and their static IP working. I talked with a tier 2 tech and he informed me the static IP routing is RIP with auth key (RIP...lol) which is programmed into the modem software itself obviously. The tech told me he had one customer who did get it working but she refused to tell him, probably think she'd get in trouble or something.

Has anyone gotten bridge mode AND static IP functionality to work with a device behind the modem. It doesn't matter what device or vendor at this point I just need some real world configs to go off of.

Figured it is worth asking before I start looking into trying to get raw data at the coax level to see what the docsis frames look like and see if any info is usable related to the way static IP is negotiated to the modem.
